Mediation

The NSCFC believes that:

For Mediation to have any chance of working “in the best interest of children”, who are all too often caught up in the acrimony of separation or divorce of the parents they love unconditionally. It most surely needs to become mandatory on all parties to attend a course of mediation sessions. Should either party refuse mediation BEFORE entering the family court procedure, this should and must be reflected in the courts judgement regarding Residency or Contact.

The Family Mediators' Association

Family Mediation helps couples (married or unmarried) at any stage of separation or divorce to deal with family arrangements and practical matters that need to be settled, avoiding stressful court proceedings. Mediation can help to work out terms of settlement that are acceptable to both parties. It is free of charge to those who qualify and helps to avoid high legal costs. Most importantly, parents are helped by family mediators to give priority to their children in making arrangements for them. Mediators can also help to settle financial and property matters.
